That Christ died "for our sins" is an article of faith
confessed in every creed and taught in every catechism.
There can be no adequate recollection of Jesus without
confessing the meaning of his suffering and death
(Augustine, CG XIII, XVII, NPNF 1II, pp. 245-61,
337-60; Pearson, EC I, pp. 347-51).
Quote taken from Thomas Oden's
Systematic Theology;
The Word of Life, pp. 316.

Wesley died on Wednesday March 2, 1791, in his eighty-eighth year. As he lay dying,
his friends gathered around him, Wesley grasped their hands and said repeatedly,
"Farewell, farewell." At the end, summoning all his remaining strength, he cried out,
"The best of all is, God is with us," lifted his arms and raised his feeble voice again,
repeating the words, "The best of all is, God is with us."

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received,
that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that
He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according
to the Scriptures, . . . 1 Corinthians 15: 3,4 NASB translation

Truth is not within man's reach. It is only in God. It is a peak
of insight. One must strain to attain it. There are no proofs to
validate ultimate Truth, since perception and reason say one
thing and Truth may reveal the opposite. The only
alternative is to eliminate the self, to grow in faith. Faith is
more perceptive than reason.

What is one of the major roots of evil in our insane
world? The answer offered in this book is:
mendacity, falsehood, wantonness of words,
perversion of the heart. Falsehood is a refuge, an
asylum for the cruel, the violent, for consummate
criminals. What begins in a lie ends in blasphemy.

"It is by faith and love of God that finds expression in deeds
that we live as Jews."

Abraham Joshua Heschel made this profound assertion about
what he believed to be the beliefs and practices of biblical
Judaism. As Christians we share similar beliefs and practices:
It is by faith (in Christ) and love of God that finds expression
in deeds that we live as Christians.
(J. E. Moore)

James 2: 14-17
What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but
he has no works?  Can that faith save him?  If a brother or
sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one
of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled,"
and yet you do not give them what is necessary for
their
body, what use is that?  Even so faith, if it has no works , is
dead,
being by itself.  (NASB)
